What is
2. Olympic Weightlifting –
Aka Oly lifting and Weightlifting
When would I use it?
If you want to try something more technical or are up for a new challenge once you have been strength training a while and have mastered some of the basic movements. Or, if you are a sports person wanting to develop athletic performance. If you want to compete in a strength sport.
What does it involve?
Learning the “Snatch” and the “Clean and Jerk” – they are the movements you see in the Olympics and are a combination of many of the movement patterns that are involved in general strength training. It involves strength, speed and flexibility. The aim of the sport is to lift as much weight as you can for 1 repetition of each of the 2 movements.
How do I try it?
You will need a weightlifting coach to learn this type of strength training and is typically something you move on to once you have mastered some of the more basic strength movements. We would recommend attending a weightlifting beginners class or sharing sessions with a friend. At SYNERGI we have 6 week women’s only, introduction to weight lifting courses too.
