When would I use it?
If you would like to take strength training to the next level and take strength training more seriously. Or if you would like to compete in a strength sport.
What does it involve?
Powerlifting involves learning to “Squat”, “Bench” and “Deadlift” – also known as the “Big 3”. The aim of the sport is to lift as much weight as you can for 1 repetition for each of the 3 movements. Training for powerlifting is similar to general strength training. When starting out in the gym you will learn to squat, bench press and deadlift – they are basic movement patterns that everyone should know. Each week you try to lift a little more weight than the last, however the focus in powerlifting is to develop absolute strength in each of the 3 lifts.
How do I try it?
Again, if you want to learn how to perform the lifts proficiently and safely a coach or a class would be your best bet. We have powerlifting classes on the timetable! Check them out!
